PROMOTING DR. HECTOR’S HEALTHCARE INITIATIVES AND LEGACY…

The Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Foundation is hosting the 2026 Signature Luncheon Event on Friday, January 30, 2026, 11:30 a.m., at the Omni Corpus Christi Hotel, 900 N. Shoreline Blvd., Corpus Christi, Texas.

We are honored to have Dr. Nelly Garcia Blow, Chief Medical Officer Amistad Health, Corpus Christi, Texas as our Keynote Speaker who will be discussing Dr. Garcia’s historical contributions to healthcare initiatives.

The proceeds are used for scholarships, a recent $50,000 donation to Christus Health for indigent care services at the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Family Health Clinic that opened in 2017, assistance to needy veterans and continuing the effort for the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Center at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, which will display memorabilia from Dr. Hector’s life as well as access to his entire digitized collection. The Foundation has provided over $400,000.00 in scholarships to local and state students.

Dr. Hector P. Garcia is an American hero, civil rights activist, and a distinguished humanitarian. He achieved the rank of Major in the U.S. Army and was chief of surgery of several Mobile Army Surgical Hospitals. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with six Bronze Stars, and the World War II Victory Medal. The U.S. Army recognized him as one of the most influential Hispanics to serve in this branch of the military. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1984 by President Ronald Reagan. The Texas Legislature passed SB495 to honor him and designated the third Wednesday in September as “Dr. Hector P. Garcia Texas State Recognition Day.
