Cecilia Garcia Akers continues family legacy

Cecilia Garcia Akers is the daughter of legendary civil rights leader and activist Dr. Hector P. Garcia. Cecilia is the President of the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Foundation, whose mission is to expand awareness of her father’s legacy in education and equal rights for veterans and minorities. The Foundation’s mission is to continue Dr. Garcia’s work by providing assistance and access toward opportunity for all. The Foundation provides scholarships to students wishing to continue their education and promotes community building projects both in education and healthcare. They have been working on two ambitious projects since the beginning of the Foundation in 2012 that showcases their purpose in Corpus Christi.

Sealy Society Dinner hosted by the University of Texas Medical Branch

Jim Akers and Cecilia Garcia Akers attended the Sealy Society Dinner hosted by the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, TX on April 17, 2015.  The Sealy Society recognizes its most generous benefactors of the University of Texas Medical Branch for its educational initiatives.  The Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Foundation is a proud sponsor of the University of Texas Medical Branch, one of the leading medical schools in this country.

Cecilia Garcia Akers, President and Jim Akers, Vice President of the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Foundation were guests of the CHRISTUS SPOHN Health System Foundation's Twenty-Seventh Annual Lyceum on Tuesday, March 31, 2015.


Veronica Wenzel, Program Director of Development CHRISTUS SPOHN Foundation, joined Cecilia and Jim at the American Bank Center, which featured Dr. Charles Krauthammer as the Keynote Speaker for the event.

Moving forward for the new Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Family Health Center to be completed in 2016. We are honored that this beautiful, first of its kind facility in Corpus Christi, will be named after one of the best primary care physicians ever.
