The Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Foundation is proud to announce the recipient of the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Scholarship. Pictured is Dr. Anthony Quiroz, professor of Mexican American Studies at Texas A& M Corpus Christi, Cecilia Garcia Akers, President of the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Foundation, Daniel Yzaguirre, scholarship recipient and Jim Akers, Treasurer of the Foundation. The Foundation donated $5000.00 to the University for this scholarship. Congratulations to Daniel!

Dr. Hector P. Garcia: Physician, Soldier, Father: A Daughter's Perspective.

The Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Foundation is pleased to announce that President Cecilia Garcia Akers is the author of a new book about Dr. Garcia titled: Dr. Hector P. Garcia: Physician, Soldier, Father: A Daughter's Perspective. The book will be released in 2016. We ask for your prayers for this project, as it will detail certain events of Dr. Garcia's life that impacted his work and advocacy in healthcare, veterans affairs and his family life.

Cecilia Garcia Akers continues family legacy

Cecilia Garcia Akers is the daughter of legendary civil rights leader and activist Dr. Hector P. Garcia. Cecilia is the President of the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Foundation, whose mission is to expand awareness of her father’s legacy in education and equal rights for veterans and minorities. The Foundation’s mission is to continue Dr. Garcia’s work by providing assistance and access toward opportunity for all. The Foundation provides scholarships to students wishing to continue their education and promotes community building projects both in education and healthcare. They have been working on two ambitious projects since the beginning of the Foundation in 2012 that showcases their purpose in Corpus Christi.
